So with my previous trip to Malham being thwarted by cloud I took a return trip back yesterday in the hope of getting some good conditions for astro photography. The weather didn’t disappoint and I will get onto editing my astro attempts shortly. This was taken just before sunset and I like the hues of the clouds and the highlights on the limestone rocks.
So I’ve finally had some reasonably successful shooting. After a very disappointing trip to Malham yesterday with the prospect of some nice astro photography conditions I think I managed to find the only cloud in the whole of the country. I had anticipated camping out but returned immediately after driving into cloud. That along with the prospect of not being able to make a return journey home the morning after until the road thawed out meant I came straight home. I will shoot some stars one day! I decided to try again today to get some winter shots and headed towards trusty Ladybower Reservoir. I was very thankful for the break in the clouds making a nice sunset. I’ll just have to return to Malham Cove and the interesting rock formations along with Scalaber Force another day with my unfinished business.
It has been an age since I’ve posted anything to my blog, I’ve had quite a few trips out since my last post including a trip to Scotland which is simply stunning. My trip out this weekend took me to Fairbrook Naze. The heather looks great this time of year in its full purple flower. I arrived very close to sunset as my original plan was to camp out at Seal Stones. Having realised that I may have more success at Fairbrook Naze I plodded onwards arriving with little time before sunset. I managed to get a few shots off before the light went and then set about setting up camp for the night and attempting some astro photography. Results were ok but I’m looking forward to getting my hands on my most recent purchase the Samyang 14mm 2.8 in the hope to capture a bit more light than is possible with the Canon 17-40 f4. The morning that followed was a lovely start to the day with rolling clouds scattering the horizon. I’m pleased with the results and certainly pleased I made the most of the light before our typical bank holiday weather!
So I finally made it back here after an abandoned attempt earlier in the week due to an accident which resulted in a road closure. The temperature soon dropped as sunset neared so I was pleased I had packed the jacket. It was also the first outing and use of a walking pole which I can thoroughly recommend for scrambling up hills. I seemed to get up to the top much quicker than last time with half the effort! All good practice for Scotland in a week although I suspect the hills and mountains will be much harder work particularly as I always seem to choose the steepest bits!
Overlooking Dove Stone Reservoir. A clear blue day for much of the day however there was a bit of haze in the air. The sun disappeared behind cloud around thirty minutes before sunset but I’m still pleased with the shots I got. This is one of my favorites.
So after two attempts I still haven’t found the Trinacle at Middle Edge Moss. I settled for this today, unfortunately the sun didn’t make any more of an appearance but I like how the sun is lighting the far side of the valley.
So here is another shot from yesterday. The colours really were this vivid and I hope I see another sunset like this again soon!
So here is a shot from Edale Moor. It was a beautiful frosty morning on the hills with not a cloud in the sky.
So here is one of the Wessenden waterfalls. I’m definitely returning to the area soon to do more exploring as there are some great shots to be had. The largest waterfall I expected to be far more ferocious after the recent rain but it was far tamer than I had expected. I’m hoping for a downpour soon!
